Oxidised Regenerated Cellulose (ORC) Haemostats

Key Facts

WILLOCELL haemostats comprises Sterile Absorbable Oxidised Regenerated Cellulose of plant origin and are available in 3 different forms:

- Standard Knitted form

- Non-woven Layered or Fibril form and a

- Denser Knitted form.

These devices are made from cellulose derived from wood pulp which is first made into viscose/rayon fibres, then regenerated back into oxidised cellulose hence the term ORC.

On application haemostasis is typically achieved within 1 to 3 minutes.

If left in situ following haemostasis the device is fully absorbed withing 7 to 14 days.

WILLOCELL is classified as being clinically, technically and biologically equivalent to the brand leading ORC devices.

The key differentiating factor between WILLOCELL and the leading brand is that WILLOCELL is available for a fraction of the cost.

WILLOCELL haemostats are Class III medical devices and certified compliant to the requirements of the EU Medical Device Directives by Notified Body 2292.

This ORC product has been available since 2012 and over 4 million units have been supplied across a range of surgical disciplines without reported events or incidents.

Contraindication

Do not use as packing or wadding unless it is to be removed after haemostasis has been achieved.

Do not use for implantation in bone defects such as fractures since there is a possibility of interference with callus formation and a theoretical chance of cyst formation.

When used to help achieve haemostasis in, around or in proximity to formania in bone, areas of bony confines, the spinal  cord or the optic nerve and chiasm, it must always be removed after haemostasis is achieved since it may swell and could exert unwanted pressure.
